What is Ringer's Lactate Solution and what is it used for?
Ringer's Lactate Solution is an electrolyte solution and is used:
- for fluid and electrolyte substitution in cases of acid-base balance and mild acidosis
- as short-term intravascular volume replacement in isotonic dehydration
- in hypotonic dehydration
- as a carrier solution for compatible electrolyte concentrates and medications
How should Ringer's Lactate Solution be used?
Your doctor will administer the medicine via infusion (administration directly into a vein).
The dosage depends on your fluid and electrolyte requirements.

The maximum infusion rate depends on your clinical condition.
Maximum daily dose:
The maximum daily dose depends on your fluid and electrolyte requirements. A fluid intake of 40 ml/kg body weight per day should not be exceeded in adults.
Duration of use:
Your doctor will decide on the duration of use.
If you have been given more Ringer's Lactate Solution than intended,
the symptoms of an overdose are:
- Overwatering
- Electrolyte imbalance
- Hyperosmolarity
- Induction of an alkalotic metabolic state
Treatment in case of overdose:
- Interruption of the supply of the solution
- Accelerated excretion via the kidneys
- a corresponding negative balance of the electrolytes
