VENOSTASIN Areas of application:
Treatment of complaints in diseases of the leg veins (chronic venous insufficiency), e.g. pain and heaviness in the legs, nocturnal calf cramps, itching and leg swelling.

Indication :
  • This is a herbal medicine for venous diseases.
  • It is used in adults to treat symptoms of diseases of the leg veins (chronic venous insufficiency), such as pain and heaviness in the legs, night-time calf cramps, itching and leg swelling.
  • If you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 4 weeks, consult a doctor.
Dosage :
  • Always take this medicine exactly as described or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
  • The recommended dose is:
    • Adult:
      • Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, adults take 1 sustained-release hard capsule daily in the morning and evening (equivalent to 100 mg aescin).
    • Children and young people
      • It is not intended for use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.

 

  • Duration of application:
    • Long-term treatment is possible after consultation with your doctor.
    • If your symptoms do not improve after 4 weeks of taking the medicine, you should consult a doctor, as leg swelling can also have other causes. Please also note the information in the "Patient information" and "Side effects" categories.
  • Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect is too strong or too weak.

 

  • If you take more than you should:
    • The saponins contained in horse chestnut seed extract can increase the side effect of nausea if overdosed, and vomiting and diarrhea are also possible. A doctor should be consulted to decide whether countermeasures are necessary.

 

  • If you forget to take it:
    • Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

 

  • If you stop taking it:
    • Interrupting or prematurely ending treatment is generally harmless. If in doubt, please consult your doctor or pharmacist.

 

  • If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Manner :
  • To take.
  • The medicine should be taken whole and with plenty of liquid before meals.
  • If mild stomach or intestinal discomfort occurs, it is recommended to take the medicine with meals.
Side effects :
  • Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
  • The following frequency information is used to evaluate side effects:

    • Common: may affect up to 1 in 10 people
    • Uncommon: may affect up to 1 in 100 people
    • Rare: may affect up to 1 in 1000 people
    • Very rare: may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people
    • Not known: Frequency cannot be estimated from the available data
  • Possible side effects:
    • Digestive tract:
      • Occasionally: nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach and intestinal complaints (mucous membrane irritation)
    • Nervous system:
      • Occasionally: dizziness and headache
    • Hypersensitivity reactions:
      • Rare: Hypersensitivity reactions of the skin (itching, rash)
      • Very rare: Serious allergic reactions (sometimes with bleeding)
    • Genital organs:
      • Very rare: Gynecological intermenstrual bleeding
    • Cardiovascular system:
      • Very rare: increase in heart rate (tachycardia) and increase in blood pressure.
  • If you notice any of the side effects listed above, especially bleeding, stop taking the medicine and inform your doctor so that he or she can decide on the severity and any necessary measures.
  • At the first signs of a hypersensitivity reaction (e.g. skin rash), the medicine should be discontinued.
  • If you notice any side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. This includes any side effects not listed.
Interactions :
  • Taking with other medicines:
    • The effect of anticoagulant drugs may be increased.
    • Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used or intend to take/use any other medicines.
  • Taking with food and drink:
    • There are no special features to consider.
Contraindications :
  • The medicine must not be taken
    • if you are allergic to horse chestnut seed dry extract or any of the other ingredients.
Pregnancy and breast feeding period :
  • If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.
  • The medicine must not be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding because there are no sufficient studies.
Patient information :
  • Warnings and Precautions
    • Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.
    • If you experience sudden, unusually severe symptoms, particularly in one leg, which are noticeable through swelling, discoloration of the skin, a feeling of tension or heat, and pain, you should consult a doctor immediately. These may be signs of a serious illness (leg vein thrombosis) related to the underlying venous insufficiency. These are not due to taking the medicine.
    • Likewise, if there are signs of heart failure or kidney dysfunction, a doctor should be consulted.
    • A notice:
      • Other non-invasive measures prescribed by the doctor, such as wrapping the legs, wearing support stockings or cold water douses, should be strictly observed.
      • Taking this medicine does not replace other preventive or treatment measures such as cold water douching or wearing support stockings prescribed by a doctor.
    • Children and young people
      • Due to the indication, the product is not intended for use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.

 

  • Ability to drive and use machines:
    • There are no special precautions required.
