On the other hand, alpha lipoic acid acts as a radical scavenger and is considered to be extremely effective and versatile.
Alpha-lipoic acid is an important sulfur-containing fatty acid that is both water- and fat-soluble as an intermediate in choline metabolism in the body. Alpha-lipoic acid can be produced by the body itself and can be ingested through food. However, one of the special features of alpha-lipoic acid is that it can cross the blood-brain barrier between the bloodstream and the central nervous system. It can penetrate intra- and extracellular structures and is converted to dihydrolipoic acid.
