Antiseptic, antiseptics, OCTENISEPT solution with spray pump Indication :
- The preparation is an antiseptic for repeated, time-limited antiseptic treatment of mucous membranes and adjacent skin before diagnostic and surgical measures - in the ano-genital area of the vagina, vulva, glans penis, also before catheterization of the urinary bladder - in the oral cavity.
- For temporary supportive therapy for fungal diseases of the skin between the toes and for supportive antiseptic wound treatment.
Dosage Antiseptic, antiseptics, OCTENISEPT solution with spray pump:
- Always use this medicine exactly as described or exactly as discussed with your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
- The preparation is intended for superficial use and must not be introduced into the depth of the tissue using a syringe, for example.
- Carefully rub the area to be treated one after the other with at least 2 medicine-soaked swabs. The wound must be completely wetted. Before taking further measures, such as applying a wound dressing, wait for the minimum exposure time of 1 to 2 minutes. Rinsing the oral cavity is possible, but should only be done if the entire oral cavity needs to be treated. Then use 20 ml over 20 seconds.
- To support the treatment of fungal diseases of the skin between the toes, the medicine should be sprayed onto the affected areas in the morning and evening. In order to achieve the desired effect, these specifications must be carefully adhered to.
- Since so far there is only experience with continuous use of around 14 days, the medicine should not be used for longer than 2 weeks without medical supervision.
-
If you have used more than you should
- There is no information on overdoses. However, an overdose is very unlikely with a topical preparation.
- If you have any further questions about using this medicine, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

Side effects :
- Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.
-
The following frequency information is used as a basis for evaluating side effects:
- Very often more than 1 treated person in 10
- Often 1 to 10 treated in 100
- Occasionally 1 to 10 people treated in 1,000
- Rarely 1 to 10 people treated in 10,000
- Very rarely less than 1 person treated in 10,000
- Not known Frequency cannot be estimated from the available data
-
Rarely:
- Burning, redness, itching and feeling of warmth
-
Very rare:
- Contact allergic reactions, such as temporary redness
-
Not known:
- After irrigation of deep wounds using a syringe, persistent edema, erythema and tissue necrosis were reported, some of which required surgical revision.
-
When rinsing the oral cavity, the medicine temporarily causes a bitter
taste.
- If you notice any side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist. This also applies to side effects that are not specified.
Interactions :
-
Use together with other medicines
- Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or plan to take any other medicines.
- Do not use antiseptics (disinfectants) based on PVP-iodine on neighboring skin areas, as severe brown to purple discoloration can occur in the border areas.
Contraindications :
-
The preparation must not be used
- if you are allergic to the active ingredients or any of the other ingredients.
- The medicine should not be used for rinsing the abdominal cavity (e.g. intraoperatively) and the urinary bladder or on the eardrum.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding :
-
pregnancy
- Current experience with pregnant women does not indicate any risk.
-
lactation
- There are no sufficient animal experimental and clinical data on use during breastfeeding. Since octenidine dihydrochloride is not absorbed or only absorbed in very small amounts, it can be assumed that it does not pass into breast milk.
- Phenoxyethanol is quickly and practically completely absorbed and excreted almost quantitatively as an oxidation product via the kidneys. Accumulation in breast milk is therefore unlikely.
