Indication :
  • This preparation is a medicine to reduce swelling.
  • The medicine is used to support the treatment of:
    • Acute swelling after blunt injuries (e.g. bruises, bruises)
    • Superficial phlebitis, unless it can be treated with compression. The primary therapeutic measure for superficial phlebitis of the lower limbs is compression treatment.
Dosage :
  • Always use this medicine exactly as described or exactly as discussed with your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
  • The recommended dose is:
    • Apply the ointment evenly to the affected area 2 to 3 times daily.
    • If used under a bandage, apply ointment thickly and then apply the ointment bandage.

 

  • Duration of application
    • Unless otherwise prescribed, the ointment must not be used for longer than 10 days.
    • Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect is too strong or too weak.

  • Apply the ointment evenly to the affected area.

Side effects :
  • Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.
  • When evaluating side effects, the following frequency information is used:

  • Diseases of the blood and lymphatic system
    • Not known: A drop in the number of blood platelets (thrombocytopenia type II) caused by heparin (reduction in the number of blood platelets < 100,000/µl or a rapid drop in the number of blood platelets to < 50% of the initial value, with arterial and venous thrombosis or embolism, is common Use on the skin has not yet been reported.   • Diseases of the skin and subcutaneous tissue
    • Allergic reactions to heparin when applied to the skin are very rare. However, in individual cases, allergic reactions such as reddening of the skin and itching can occur, which usually disappear quickly after discontinuing the preparation.
    • If you are hypersensitive to cetyl alcohol or potassium sorbate, allergic reactions on the skin (e.g. contact dermatitis), which can manifest as redness, hives and itching, can occur.
    • The medicine should be discontinued if allergic skin reactions occur.
  • If you notice any side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist. This also applies to side effects that are not specified.
Interactions :
  • Use together with other medicines
    • Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, even if they are non-prescription medicines.
    • Interactions with other drugs are not known when used locally (topically).
Contraindications :
  • The preparation must not be used
    • if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to heparin or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
    • if you have an acute or a history of allergic fall in the number of blood platelets (thrombocytopenia type II) caused by heparin.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding :
  • Previous experience with use in pregnant and breastfeeding women has shown no evidence of harmful effects. Heparin does not cross the placenta and does not pass into breast milk.
Patient information :
  • Particular care is required when using it
    • The ointment should not be applied to open wounds or weeping eczema.
    • If new symptoms appear that may indicate a thrombosis or pulmonary embolism, such as
      • Swelling and feeling of warmth in the affected part of the body,
      • red and tense skin, possibly blue discoloration,
      • Feeling of tension and pain in the foot, calf and back of the knee (relief when elevated),
      • sudden shortness of breath, chest pain and weakness/collapse,
    • The presence of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia type II must be ruled out and the blood platelet count (thrombocyte count) must be checked immediately. Stop using the product and tell your doctor immediately.

 

  • Ability to drive and use machines
    • There are no known effects on the ability to drive or use machines.
