Choline bitartrate, or simply choline, is a water-soluble B-vitamin (vitamin-like substance). Choline bitartrate is a salt of choline and tartaric acid (from the Greek "tartaros," meaning "hell," due to the acid's corrosive effect; this corrosive effect is absent when combined with choline). It has a much better absorption rate than pure choline, which is an essential nutrient for our bodies. It plays a role in the metabolism of fats and cholesterol and is a key component of lecithin. It is also important as a methyl donor (CH3 ) in various metabolic processes, including fat metabolism. Choline intake enhances the effects of vitamin E.
