What is Cistus?
The grey-haired cistus (Cistus incanus) is a tea plant native to the Mediterranean region that contains valuable polyphenols. Cistus tea has a long tradition, especially in Greece, but has been forgotten over time. In 1999, Cistus incanus was voted "Plant of the Year" and thus rediscovered. Cistus herb are the leaves of the shrub from which the valuable labdanum is obtained. Labdanum was dedicated to the goddess of love Aphrodite in Cyprus.
Thanks to the antioxidants it contains, Cistus Incanus protects our cells from premature aging and prevents diseases. In addition, they have an antibacterial effect. The reason for these effects is the high polyphenol content of cistus. Polyphenols are secondary plant substances that have a positive effect on our health. The Cistus Incanus extract we use has a polyphenol content of 10%.

Studies have shown that Cistus Incanus is rich in tannins and essential oils, but above all it is particularly rich in polyphenols. Among the polyphenols contained in the Cistus plant, there are also a large number of so-called flavonoids. Flavonoids are so-called secondary plant substances that are contained in almost all plants - among other things often as flower pigments and the like. Strong antioxidant and antiviral properties have long been attributed to flavonoids, which is why many plants containing flavonoids have long been used to protect the immune system.
