What is Kinderlax elektrolytfrei and what is it used for?
Kinderlax elektrolytfrei (medical device) is a laxative for the symptomatic treatment of constipation in children from 6 months to 12 years.
The ingredient in Kinderlax elektrolytfrei is macrogol (polyethylene glycol) 4000. Macrogol 4000 has a high water-binding capacity and serves as a means of transport for liquids (water). Macrogol 4000 transports water directly to the large intestine, softening the stool and making it easier to pass stool. Macrogol 4000 has a purely physical effect in the intestine, is not absorbed by the body and is excreted unchanged.
How to take Kinderlax electrolyte-free?
Always use this medical product on your child exactly as the doctor or pharmacist treating you has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
It is recommended to start treatment with a dose of 0.4 g macrogol per kg body weight. This corresponds to 1 bag of children's lax electrolyte-free per 10 kilograms of body weight.
As a guide for the initial dosage:
6 months to 1 year 1 sachet (4 g)
1 to 4 years 1 to 2 sachets (4 to 8 g)
4 to 8 years 2 to 4 sachets (8 to 16 g)
8 to 12 years 3 to 8 sachets (12 to 32 g)
In the further course of therapy, the daily dose should be increased or decreased as required to ensure regular bowel movements with soft stools.
If your child has very loose stools or diarrhea, you should lower the dose. If your child takes more than one sachet of Kinderlax elektrolytfrei per day, the number of sachets can be reduced. If your child only takes one sachet, the amount of solution your child takes should be reduced.
If regular stools with soft stools are not achieved after 3 days with the starting dose (see table), the dose can be increased. In this case, please talk to your child's doctor beforehand. The maximum daily dose is 1 g macrogol per kilogram of body weight.
In order to determine the optimal dose for your child, it may be useful to keep a stool diary in which the frequency and consistency of the stool are recorded. If you keep such a diary, you should always take it with you to doctor's appointments so that the doctor can adjust the dosage of children's lax electrolyte-free accordingly.
Method of application
Kinderlax elektrolytfrei is a powder that is dissolved in water and then drunk. Other liquids (e.g. fruit juice) can be used instead of water to dissolve the powder. A volume of at least 50 ml of liquid should be added to the powder per sachet to prepare the solution. Stir until the powder has completely dissolved and give this solution to your child to drink.
It is not necessary to drink the prepared solution all at once. The solution can also be taken throughout the day.
The ready-to-drink solution can be stored in a refrigerator (2-8°C) for a maximum of 24 hours.
Please note that
Kinderlax elektrolytfrei usually works within 24 to 48 hours after it is taken for the first time.
Duration of use
Kinderlax elektrolytfrei is intended for short-term use and should not be taken for longer than 4 weeks. If the constipation persists, a pediatrician should be consulted, who should then decide on further therapy.
If your child takes more than the recommended amount of Kinderlax elektrolytfrei Taking larger
doses may increase side effects such as diarrhoea, abdominal pain, flatulence, nausea and vomiting, which usually subside when treatment is interrupted or the dose reduced. High fluid losses can disturb the electrolyte balance. In such a case, please contact your pediatrician!
If you forget to take Kinderlax elektrolytfrei
