Cortisol Single Measurement:
Cortisol, along with the catecholamines, is the most important stress hormone. Given the multitude of neuroendocrine interactions of cortisol, an excess of cortisol leads, among other things, to metabolic disorders with obesity, visceral fat distribution and elevated blood lipid levels, diabetes, immunodeficiency, and reduced resistance to infections and tumors. This is due to the inhibition of the cellular immune response with a relative strengthening of the humoral immune response. It is responsible for the increased release in acute and recurring stressful situations. The highest concentration in the body is between 7 and 8 a.m.
Attention! This test is a single measurement. We offer the test for the daily cortisol profile under the name Stress Profile. You can find the Stress Profile here.
Effects:
Normal release:
Activates the metabolism and provides the body with energy in the form of cognitive and emotional activation. It has a growth-inhibiting effect, reduces the immune system, and is anti-inflammatory.
Possible consequences of low cortisol levels:
Leads to weight gain, reduced bone density, muscle loss, burnout syndrome, fatigue, exhaustion, generally low resilience and increased irritability, heightened pain sensitivity, and skin pigmentation.
