What is curcumin?
Turmeric (Curcuma longa), also known as yellow ginger or turmeric from the ginger family, is native to India and Southeast Asia. Many know turmeric from its use in the production of curry powder and as a natural coloring agent. But beyond that, turmeric has been used in traditional medicine in Indonesia and India (Ayurveda) for several thousand years. The main ingredient beneficial to health is curcumin and other curcumoids and tetrahydrocurcuminoids. There are now over 3000 scientific studies on the health-promoting effects of curcumin, which is one of the phytochemicals of phenols.

How is that possible?
The fat-soluble (lipophilic) curcumin molecules are embedded in a ring of glucose molecules (a type of sugar - the so-called cyclodextrins) in such a way that there is a hydrophilic (water-loving) outside and a lipophilic, i.e. fat-friendly cavity inside. The curcumin molecule stays in this cavity until it reaches the intestine. There it is transported individually by the cyclodextrin molecules to the intestinal wall where it can be absorbed while the cyclodextrin is broken down and excreted.

Scientifically proven
The higher bioavailability of curcumin has also been scientifically proven. The test subjects were given normal curcumin once and three different curcumin preparations, of which the manufacturers say the bioavailability is particularly high - including Curcumin Extract 45 by Dr. Wolz. The result: Curcumin Extract 45 was absorbed up to 45 times more efficiently than pure curcumin powder! It follows that Curcumin Extract 45 provides the body with the therapeutic potential of curcumin to a much greater extent than curcumin products previously available.
