What is Magnesium-Diasporal® 4 mmol and what is it used for?
Magnesium-Diasporal® 4 mmol is a mineral preparation.
Magnesium-Diasporal® 4 mmol is used for: Magnesium deficiency:
If it is the cause of disorders of muscle activity (neuromuscular disorders, leg cramps); Tetania can also be a sign of calcium deficiency. Therefore, calcium deficiency must be ruled out by determining the serum calcium level before magnesium therapy. Therapy with magnesium sulfate is only indicated if the serum magnesium level is below normal (0.8-1.1 mmol/l) and the serum calcium level is normal (2.2-2.7 mmol/l). . In case of a tendency to miscarry, premature births, fetal hypertrophy, if these are caused by a reduction in the magnesium-dependent enzyme activity of the placenta. Treatment with magnesium sulfate may only be carried out here if the magnesium serum levels are below normal values.

What do you need to consider before using Magnesium Diasporal® 4 mmol?
Magnesium-Diasporal® 4 mmol must not be used:
in cases of severe bradycardia (slowed heart activity), myasthenia gravis (muscle weakness) and AV block (interruption of the conduction system in the heart).
Particular caution is required when using Magnesium-Diasporal® 4 mmol
in the event of severe renal excretion disorders. A dose adjustment to the degree of excretory disorder is necessary.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
There is no evidence of a risk of malformations when administering magnesium salts during pregnancy. However, documented human experience with use in early pregnancy is limited. If magnesium salts are administered shortly before birth, the newborn should be monitored for signs of toxicity (neurological depression with respiratory depression, muscle weakness, loss of reflexes) during the first 24 to 48 hours of life. The administration of aminoglycoside antibiotics should be avoided during this period as there is evidence of interactions.

What precautions must be taken when using it?
The following monitoring and precautionary measures should be taken during high-dose parenteral magnesium therapy:

• Monitoring of cardiovascular and respiratory function (respiratory frequency not below 16/min)
• Testing the ability to trigger the patellar tendon reflexes
• Determination of urine output (not less than 25 ml/h)
• Keep ampoules of calcium gluconate, 10%, available as an antidote
• Ensuring intensive care measures if the antidote alone is not sufficient.

What should be taken into account when mixing Magnesium-Diasporal® 4 mmol with other solutions?
Because of possible precipitation, Magnesium-Diasporal® 4 mmol should not be mixed with calcium, phosphate, tetracycline or alcoholic solutions. Interactions with other medicines Diuretics, aminoglycoside antibiotics (such as gentamycin, tobramycin, amphotericin B), immunosuppressants (such as cyclosporine A), cytostatics (such as cisplatin) and digitalis glycosides cause increased excretion of magnesium by the kidneys. The following medicines should not be given at the same time:

• Muscle relaxants of the curare type – these increase the effect of magnesium on the motor end plate.
• Barbiturates, narcotics or other hypnotics - because of the risk of respiratory depression.
• Calcium salts – these reduce the effect of magnesium.
