Our eyelids perform important functions for the health of our eyes. On the one hand, they form mechanical protection that protects the eye from injuries and external influences. When blinking, they also distribute the tear film evenly over the surface of the eye. The meibomian glands on the edge of the eyelid produce a fatty film that stabilizes and protects the tear film. One speaks of meibomian gland dysfunction (MDD) when production in the glands is disturbed and these are blocked. In most cases, dry eyes are due to MDD. Changes to the eyelids, for example due to skin diseases such as atopy or blepharitis or after surgery, can lead to a vicious circle of inflammation and dryness if left untreated.
THE IMPORTANCE OF EYELID CLEANSING
Cleaning the edges of the eyelids with warm, moist compresses and then massaging the edges of the eyelids is an important part of the treatment if you have what is known as blepharitis (inflammation of the eyelids). Dissolving and removing encrustations on the edges of the eyelids with suitable cleansing gels is said to improve drainage from the Meibomian glands. Studies have shown that cleaning and caring for the edge of the lid leads to fewer clogged Meibomian glands, a stabilization of the tear film and an increase in the lipid layer of the tear film.

ILAST ®HYDRACLEAN is a sterile gel for cleaning eyelid diseases, especially the lid margins, and all types of blepharitis. The hypoallergenic formulation has been ophthalmologically tested and is particularly suitable for use on ultra-sensitive, allergic and diseased skin. It allows removing scales, deposits, secretions and crusts on the eyelids and at the base of the eyelashes and does not need to be washed off after cleaning. ILAST ® HYDRACLEAN contains only a few selected caring ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and allantoin to moisturize the skin and support regeneration.
CLEAN EYELIDS PROPERLY
Before cleaning the eyelids, please wash your hands thoroughly to avoid irritation of the sensitive mucous membranes. After cleaning, it is recommended to care for and moisturize the eyelids with a suitable eyelid cream, such as ILAST ® CARE
Place moist, warm compresses, such as cotton pads, on your closed eyes for a few minutes. Clogged secretions in the meibomian glands are thus liquefied. This effect can be intensified with thermal glasses.
To express any secretions that are stuck in the glands on the lower eyelid, look up. Using a finger, massage the skin at the base of the lashes on the lower eyelid in a circular motion, applying light pressure but carefully.
For application on the upper eyelid, close the eye. Massage the skin at the base of the eyelashes in circular movements with gentle pressure of the index finger. You can also wipe out the liquid secretion from top to bottom with a damp cotton swab.
To clean the edges of the lids, use an ILAST cleaning tissue WIPES out of the packaging and wraps it around your index finger. With eyes closed, gently massage eyelid and lashes from inside to outside using circular motions.

What is the difference between ILAST ® HYDRACLEAN and ILAST ® WIPES?
At ILAST ®HYDRACLEAN is a hypoallergenic cleaning gel in an airless pump bottle, while ILAST ® WIPES is a sterile, individually packaged cleaning wipe – both products have been specially developed for cleaning eyelid diseases. Both contain skin-protecting ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and allantoin and are free from preservatives, parabens, alcohol, lanolin, perfume and essential oils. So every user can decide for himself which form of application he prefers to use.
How is ILAST ® HYDRACLEAN applied?
Turn the bottle head counterclockwise (see arrow on the pump) while holding the bottle body with the other hand. This unlocks the pump. When using for the first time, press the bottle head several times to pump the gel into the pump tube. Put a pea-sized amount of ILAST ® HYDRACLEAN on a compress or cotton pad. With your eyes closed, gently apply the compress to the eyelid and root of the eyelashes. Massage the eyelid with gentle circular movements. Repeat these steps on the other eye with a new pad. After application, ILAST ®HYDRACLEAN cannot be washed off. After use, close the pump by turning the bottle cap clockwise. If the pump fails, press the bottle head several times to reactivate it. For external use on the skin. Can be used for 3 months after opening.
