Diet, stress, and gastrointestinal flu are some of the most common causes of acute diarrhea. In addition, diarrhea is one of the most common travel illnesses on vacation.
Nutrition:Diarrhea can be caused by diet. In particular, food allergies, food intolerances or a sensitive digestive system can trigger acute diarrhea. The way of eating, such as eating too greasy, too fast, too spicy or too late, can also lead to digestive problems such as diarrhea.
Stress: In stressful exceptional situations, be it in professional or private everyday life, the rhythm of our digestive system can change negatively. It is not uncommon for stress to lead to digestive disorders such as acute diarrhea.
Gastrointestinal flu: Often times, gastrointestinal flu is caused by viruses. Diarrhea is one of the most common symptoms.
Traveller's diarrhea:Depending on the local water and hygiene standards in the travel destination, there may be an increased risk of developing traveler's diarrhea. Even the most cautious vacationers are always spared diarrhea.
Menstruation: Up to 30% of all women experience acute diarrhea during their period. The connection between intestinal complaints and menstruation has not yet been fully clarified. However, there is a suspicion that the diarrhea is caused by hormonal changes.
With diarrhea, the functional states of the intestine change. On the one hand, increased bowel movement ensures faster transport of the food in the bowel. This leaves the body with less time to absorb fluids and nutrients from them. On the other hand, the body releases more fluids and electrolytes into the intestines (secretion). The result is stool that is too fluid and too frequent.
IMODIUM akut N duo primarily reduces the increased bowel movement caused by diarrhea. Due to the slower transport speed of the food in the intestine, your body has more time to absorb water and electrolytes. As a result, the stool frequency is reduced. The stool consistency becomes firmer again. At the same time, the immune system can start fighting the pathogens that may have triggered acute diarrhea, among other things.
