Inositol, also inositol, chemically cyclohexanehexol, is a hexavalent alcohol.
Inositol is a water-soluble, essential B vitamin derivative formed from the B2 complex. Inositol is found in plants as the Ca-Mg salt of inositol hexaphosphoric acid.
Inositol exists in nine stereoisomers, the phosphatides of which are found in all cell membranes as a precursor to inositotriphosphate.
