Instillagel® is a sterile and sterile packaged, disinfecting and anesthetic cellulose-based lubricant. Due to its sterility and its particularly easy handling, Instillagel® can be used within the scope of the areas of application listed in the instructions for use in the home environment, in medical practices and also in the operating theater.
Instillagel® is characterized by its proven disinfecting and anesthetic effectiveness and received drug approval from the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices - "As a gel for disinfecting mucous membranes and for local anesthesia..."

Areas of application INSTILLAGEL, instillagel gel:
As a gel for disinfecting the mucous membranes and for local anesthesia, e.g. for catheterization, probing, also intraoperatively, all types of endoscopy, changing fistula catheters, intubations, also for ventilation, to prevent iatrogenic injuries to the rectum and colon and in pediatrics.
INSTILLAGEL, instillagel gel Contraindications:
Instillagel® 6 ml/11 ml must not be used
- with known hypersensitivity to lidocaine and other local anesthetics of the amide type,
- in patients with significant disorders of the conduction system,
- if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to methyl and propyl parahydroxybenzoate, chlorhexidine or any of the other ingredients of Instillagel® 6ml/11ml.
Use during pregnancy and lactation:
Lidocaine should only be used during the first three months of pregnancy if absolutely necessary. It is not known whether lidocaine is excreted in human milk, so breastfeeding should be avoided for up to approximately 12 hours after administration.
Warnings:
Methyl and propyl 4-hydroxybenzoate can cause hypersensitivity reactions, including delayed reactions. Propylene glycol may cause skin irritation.
Dosage instructions, INSTILLAGEL, instillagel gel type and duration of use:
Unless otherwise prescribed, for urological use
a) for catheterization:
Instill 6 ml or 11 ml. After the usual cleaning of the glans and the orificium urethrae externum, Instillagel® 6 ml/11 ml is slowly instilled into the urethra and the glans is compressed until the local anesthetic and disinfecting effect has set in.
b) for cystoscopy and endoscopy: instill
11 ml, possibly an additional 6 ml or 11 ml. The entire urethra, including the external sphincter, must be covered with a lubricating film and anesthetized for the sterile and painless insertion of instruments. A penis clamp is placed in the area of the coronary sulcus.
c) in urethral strictures (stricture splitting, bougienage):
Instill 11 ml, possibly an additional 6 ml or 11 ml, and put on a penis clamp. The required urethral anesthesia is achieved after 5 - 10 minutes.
d) for disinfection, 6 ml or 11 ml of gel are evenly distributed (instilled) on the mucous membrane.
For other applications INSTILLAGEL, instillagel gel:
slowly instill 6 ml or 11 ml into the respective body opening and/or distribute the gel as evenly as possible on the catheter to be inserted or on the instrument.

The full local anesthetic and disinfecting effect of Instillagel® 6 ml/11 ml occurs after 5 - 10 minutes.
Side effects:
Despite the proven safety margin of Instillagel® 6ml/11ml, adverse effects of the local anesthetic lidocaine are possible in the case of severe urethral injuries.
In very rare cases, allergic reactions (anaphylactic shock in the most severe cases) to an amide-type local anesthetic may occur.
In very rare cases, chlorhexidine and/or methyl or propyl 4-hydroxybenzoate can cause hypersensitivity reactions, including delayed reactions.
