Seborrhoeic eczema & pityriasis versicolor – what is it and how do I recognize it?
Seborrhoeic eczema, also known as seborrhoeic dermatitis, can be recognized by white-yellowish and often greasy scales under which the skin is red and inflamed. The eczema usually appears on the face or hairline and causes a very itchy scalp. The back, chest or genital area can also be affected. Pityriasis versicolor usually appears on the chest, back or neck in the form of circular, yellowish-brown patches. Fine scales often form in these areas and a slight itching sensation can be felt. The cause of both skin diseases is the yeast Malassezia, which is usually easy to treat so that the symptoms are quickly alleviated.
