SunSplash L-Carnitine, 500 mg 60 pcs
L-carnitine 500 mg
Carnitine is not a real amino acid, but a compound of the two amino acids, methionine and lysine. The body can synthesize this substance itself in the liver.
L-carnitine is a vitamin-like and conditionally essential nutrient and an important component of our daily diet. The human body contains around 20 - 25 g of L-carnitine. The heart, muscles, liver and our immune cells contain a lot of it. It was discovered in 1905 as an important component of the muscles and was therefore given the name carnitine from the Latin "carnis" (meat). In 1955, its essential function in the transport of fatty acids was discovered. In 1973, the first cases of congenital primary L-carnitine deficiency were diagnosed. L-carnitine has been used in human and animal nutrition since the late 1970s. Since its discovery, a large number of scientific studies have been published on the subject and new ones are added every year.
L-carnitine is mainly found in meat and dairy products. Plant products contain almost no L-carnitine. If you eat a very meat-rich diet, you can get up to 2 g of L-carnitine with food. A vegetarian diet leads to a reduction in the L-carnitine content in the body. Our body can produce small amounts of L-carnitine itself. To do this, the organism needs the essential amino acids lysine and methionine, vitamins C, B3, B6, B12 & folic acid, and iron. However, most of the daily requirement is taken in with food.
The need for L-carnitine is greatly increased during pregnancy and breastfeeding. During breastfeeding, the mother passes a lot of L-carnitine to the newborn via breast milk. L-carnitine is an important component of breast milk. Milk-free soy-based infant formula does not contain L-carnitine and the additive is required by law. This is why it has been used in infant formula for years. The body's own L-carnitine production is not fully developed until the age of 15.
