Indication / LAXANS-ratiopharm bisacodyl suppository application

  • The medicine is a laxative.
  • The preparation is used for constipation (constipation), for diseases that require easier bowel evacuation, as well as for bowel evacuation during treatment measures and measures for the detection of diseases (therapeutic and diagnostic interventions) in the intestine.
  • Like other laxatives, this should not be used daily or over a long period of time without a doctor's clarification of the cause of constipation.

LAXANS-ratiopharm bisacodyl suppository dosage

  • Always use this medicine exactly as described or exactly as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
  • The recommended dose is
    • Adults and children from 10 years
      • For rapid emptying of the bowel, 1 suppository (equivalent to 10 mg bisacodyl) is inserted into the rectum.
      • For bowel evacuation during treatment measures and measures for the detection of diseases (diagnostic and therapeutic interventions) in the intestine as well as in diseases that require easier bowel evacuation, use is carried out according to the doctor's instructions.
    • Use in children
      • In children, the drug should only be used on medical advice.
  • The onset of action takes place approx. 15 to 30 minutes after inserting the suppository.

 

  • Duration of application
    • The use of this drug is usually a single use. If the symptoms recur, the preparation can be used again.
    • It should not be used continuously every day or for long periods of time without clarifying the cause of constipation.
    • Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of the preparation is too strong or too weak.

 

  • If you use more than you should
    • Overdosing can lead to diarrhea and abdominal cramps with high losses of fluids, potassium and other mineral salts. If you have severe symptoms, ask your doctor for advice.
    • The treatment depends on the prevailing complaints. If necessary, the loss of fluid and salt (especially potassium) must be compensated.
    • Note:
      • In general, laxatives (e.g. this one) are known to lead to chronic diarrhea, abdominal pain, low potassium levels, excessive secretion of aldosterone and kidney stones in the event of chronic overdose. In connection with chronic laxative abuse, there have also been reports of kidney tissue damage, a metabolic increase in base concentrations in the blood, and muscle weakness caused by decreased potassium levels.

 

  • If you forget to use it
    • Do not use double the amount to make up for a forgotten application.

  • Like all medicines, this medicine can have side effects, although not everybody gets them.
  • The most commonly reported side effects during treatment are abdominal pain and diarrhea.
  • Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people)
    • Abdominal cramps, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea. In particular, tears in the intestinal mucosa and ulcers in the rectum area can often lead to pain, local irritation and bleeding.
  • Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people)
    • Vomiting, blood in the stool, abdominal discomfort, discomfort in the rectum
    • Dizziness (this is probably a circulatory reaction due to constipation-related abdominal pain or the purging process itself)
  • Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people)
    • Hypersensitivity reactions
  • Not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data)
    • Severe immediate allergic reaction, swelling of the skin and mucous membranes
    • Water loss
    • Inflammation of the colon

  • If the drug is used improperly (too long and too high a dose), water, potassium and other electrolytes may be lost. This can lead to cardiac disorders and muscle weakness, especially if you take water tablets (diuretics) and adrenal hormones (corticosteroids) at the same time. The sensitivity to certain drugs to strengthen the heart function (cardiac glycosides) can be increased.

  • Use with other medicines
    • Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking / using any other medicines you have recently taken / used or may take / use any other medicines.
    • Diuretics, adrenal hormones
      • Concomitant use of water tablets (diuretics) or adrenal cortex hormones (corticosteroids) may increase the risk of electrolyte build-ups with excessive use of this drug.
    • Cardiac tonic
      • The sensitivity to certain drugs to strengthen the heart function (cardiac glycosides) can be increased by electrolyte changes.

LAXANS-ratiopharm bisacodyl suppository Contraindications

  • The drug must not be used
    • if you are allergic to bisacodyl or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
    • for complaints such as B. abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, or fever. These can be signs of a serious illness (intestinal narrowing with impaired intestinal passage, intestinal obstruction, acute inflammation in the abdominal area, acute, surgically treated abdominal pain such as appendicitis). In the event of such complaints, you should seek medical advice immediately.

  • Warnings and Precautions
    • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using the medicine.
    • You should not use the product in the event of illnesses associated with disorders of the water and mineral salt balance (e.g. significant lack of fluid in the body).
    • Laxatives should only be used for a short time without medical clarification.
    • If you have chronic constipation, ask your doctor for advice before use.
    • Increased fluid loss can lead to dehydration. Under certain circumstances (e.g. in patients with impaired kidney function or in the elderly) this can have harmful effects. In such cases, the use should be interrupted and only continued under medical supervision.
    • Patients reported blood in their stool. These were generally described as weak and went away on their own.
    • Dizziness or short-term fits of loss of consciousness (syncope) have been reported in patients taking this medicine. According to the relevant case reports, this is probably syncope, which can be traced back either to the laxative process itself, to pressing or to circulatory reactions due to abdominal pain.

      • In children over 11 years of age, the preparation should only be used on medical advice.

 

  • Driving and using machines
    • No studies on the effects on the ability to drive and use machines have been performed.
