Product description
A lack of the vital mineral magnesium can have many causes, eg unbalanced eating habits, an increased need for magnesium (eg pregnancy, breastfeeding) or increased losses of magnesium, eg in diabetes mellitus or due to everyday stress. Due to the extensive functions of magnesium in the organism, a lack of "every nook and cranny" can make itself felt, e.g premature labor in pregnancy.

614.8 mg magnesium aspartate hydrochloride trihydrate, equivalent to 60.8 mg magnesium per film-coated tablet.

  • The drug is a mineral supplement.
  • The drug is used in proven magnesium deficiency if it is the cause of muscle activity disorders (neuromuscular disorders, calf cramps).

  • Always take the medicine exactly as directed. Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
  • The recommended average daily dose is 0.185 mmol magnesium (4.5 mg) per kg body weight. In the case of chronic and severe acute magnesium deficiency states, the daily dose can be safely increased to 0.37 mmol magnesium (9 mg) per kg body weight, provided there are no contraindications.
  • dosage
    • Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose is:
    • Adults and young people:
      • 2 film-coated tablets 3 times a day (equivalent to 364.8 mg magnesium).
    • Children from 10 - 14 years:
      • 2 film-coated tablets twice a day (equivalent to 243.2 mg magnesium).
    • Children from 4 - 9 years:
      • 2 film-coated tablets once or twice a day (equivalent to 121.6 - 243.2 mg magnesium).

 

  • duration of use
    • The drug should be taken daily for at least 4 weeks. Long-term therapy (for years) is also harmless with normal kidney function, since excess magnesium is excreted via the kidneys.
    • Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect is too strong or too weak.

 

  • If you take more than you should
    • the listed side effects may occur more frequently.

  • Please swallow the film-coated tablets whole with sufficient liquid (preferably a glass of drinking water). The medicine should be taken before meals, as this improves absorption from the gastrointestinal tract into the bloodstream.

side effects

  • Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.
  • The frequency of side effects is based on the following categories:
    • Very common: affects more than 1 in 10 people
    • Common: affects 1 to 10 users in 100
    • Uncommon: affects 1 to 10 users in 1000
    • Rare: affects 1 to 10 users in 10,000
    • Very rare: affects less than 1 in 10,000 people
    • Not known: frequency cannot be estimated from the available data.
  • Occasionally soft stools can occur, which are harmless. They can be the result of high-dose magnesium treatment. Rarely, symptoms of tiredness can occur if the preparation is taken in high doses and for a long time. This can be an indication that an increased magnesium concentration in the blood has already been reached.
  • If bothersome diarrhea occurs, the daily dose should be reduced.
  • Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if any of the side effects gets serious, or if you notice any side effects that are not listed.

  • When taken with other medicines
    • Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using or have recently taken/used other medicines, even if they are non-prescription medicines.
    • The effect of the drugs or groups of drugs mentioned below can be influenced if they are treated with this drug at the same time.
    • Certain antibiotics (tetracyclines) and sodium fluoride preparations should be taken 3-4 hours apart from this drug in order to avoid mutual impairment of absorption into the blood.

Contraindications

  • The drug must not be taken
    • if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to magnesium aspartate hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients.
    • if you suffer from severe kidney dysfunction with inhibition of excretion or lack of fluids in the body or if you tend to develop infection stones (calcium magnesium ammonium phosphate stones).

pregnancy and breast feeding period

  • The drug can be used during pregnancy and lactation.

  • Special care is required when taking the drug
    • if you have impaired kidney function; then you should ask your doctor before taking it.
  • Children:
    • Only give this medicine to children under 4 years of age after consulting a doctor, as there is not enough experience for this age group.

 

  • Driving and using machines:
    • There are no special precautions required.
