indication

  • The preparation is a remedy for yeast infections in the mouth and gastrointestinal area.
  • Application areas:
    • Infections caused by nystatin-sensitive yeast fungi (e.g. Candida albicans) in the mouth (oral thrush) and gastrointestinal tract.

  • Always use/take this medicine exactly as described or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
  • The recommended dose is:
    • oral thrush:
      • Newborns (0 to 4 weeks) and infants (1 month to 2 years):
        • 0.5 - 1 ml suspension 4 to 6 times a day
      • Children (>/= 2 years) and adults:
        • 1 - 2 ml suspension 4 to 6 times a day
    • Gastrointestinal infections:
      • Newborns (0 to 4 weeks) and infants (1 month to 2 years):
        • 0.5 - 1 ml suspension 4 to 6 times a day
      • Children (>/= 2 years) and adults:
        • 1 - 2 ml suspension 4 to 6 times a day

 

  • duration of use
    • For oral thrush, treatment should be continued for 2 to 3 days after the visible symptoms have disappeared. In the case of yeast infections of the gastrointestinal tract, treatment should generally be carried out 2 weeks or a few days after complete healing. If symptoms persist, you should see a doctor.

 

  • If you take more than you should
    • Gastrointestinal disorders such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea can occur. A specific antidote is not known. In cases of acute overdose, you should stop using the drug immediately and contact your doctor.

 

  • If you forget to use/take it
    • Do not apply/take a double amount if you have forgotten the previous application/dose.

 

  • If you stop using/taking it
    • A successful therapy is no longer guaranteed if the treatment is terminated prematurely.

  • For use in the oral cavity and for oral use.
  • Shake well before each use. Then use the pipette to take the suspension up to the desired mark and put it in your mouth drop by drop. If possible, the pipette should not come into contact with the diseased areas. After use, screw the pipette onto the bottle.

    • The treatment should take place after meals. Plaques of thrush (white patches) should be wiped off with a cotton swab before dabbing with the suspension. Then the suspension is trickled into the mouth with the pipette. The suspension should be kept in the mouth for as long as possible before swallowing.
  • Gastrointestinal infections
    • Take the suspension before meals.

side effects

  • Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
  • Since nystatin is not absorbed (taken into the body) when administered orally due to the molecular size, systemic side effects are not to be expected.
  • Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):
    • Gastrointestinal complaints such as B. Loss of appetite, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting
  • Very rare (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people):
    • allergic reaction
  • If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. This also applies to side effects that are not specified.

interactions

  • Use/taking together with other medicines
    • Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are using/taking, have recently used/taken or might use/take any other medicines.
    • So far, no interactions with other drugs have become known.
  • Use/consumption with food, drink and alcohol
    • There are no restrictions.

Contraindications

  • The medicine must not be used/taken
    • if you are allergic to nystatin or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

pregnancy and breast feeding period

  • If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
  • Nystatin, the active ingredient, is hardly absorbed in therapeutic doses after oral administration, through the intact skin or through the mucous membranes. Nystatin does not cross the placenta and is not expected to be excreted in breast milk.
  • The suspension can be used during pregnancy and lactation.
  • No data are available on the effects on fertility.

      • Due to the high osmolarity of nystatin, its use in very underweight and immature preterm infants is not recommended.
