HAY FEVER
Allergy to certain tree, herb or grass pollen is one of the most common allergic diseases in Germany. Around one in seven people is affected by hay fever, which can last for several weeks or even months, depending on the allergen, and can severely impair the quality of life in spring and summer. For the efficient alleviation of eye discomfort, we recommend the local application of an antihistamine without preservatives such as e.g. B. Pollival ® eye drops. The drug is particularly well tolerated and takes effect within a few minutes.
HOUSE DUST ALLERGY
In the case of a house dust allergy, the immune system reacts all year round. In fact, it is not the house dust itself that is responsible for perennial (non-seasonal) allergic conjunctivitis, but the house dust mite that lives in it. Regardless of the level of cleanliness, they can be found in every household. The tiny creatures feel most comfortable in and around the bed and in upholstered furniture and textiles in the living area. The symptoms in the eyes and nose often occur mainly at night and thus disturb a restful sleep.
ANIMAL HAIR ALLERGY
Animal hair allergies are triggered by substances containing protein in saliva, sebum, sweat or urine, which are deposited in the fur and spread with the hair through the air we breathe and house dust. Cats have the greatest allergy-triggering potential among pets. Complaints can occur even if the animal has never been in the room. A cat hair on someone's clothing can be enough to trigger symptoms such as red, itchy or watery eyes in the allergy sufferer. A fast-acting antihistamine such as Pollival ® eye drops should therefore always be at hand.
FREQUENT QUESTIONS POLLIVAL 0.5 mg eye drops, hay fever eyes & ANSWERS:
How often should Pollival ® eye drops be used?
Pollival ®Eye drops with the active ingredient azelastine are suitable for the rapid relief of allergic symptoms in the eye. Unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor, 1 drop is instilled into the lower eyelid of the affected eye in the morning and evening. In the case of severe symptoms, the dose can be increased to up to 4 times a day in consultation with the ophthalmologist. Relief of symptoms should begin after 15 to 30 minutes. Short-term visual impairment may occur immediately after instillation. Therefore, wait after using Pollival ®Eye drops a few minutes before driving or participating in traffic, operating electrical machines and tools or working without a secure footing. Regular use is recommended until the symptoms have completely subsided. However, the total duration of use of Pollival ® eye drops should not exceed 6 weeks. Please note that with a bottle of Pollival ® eye drops - as with other eye drop preparations - only the same person may be treated to avoid the transmission of germs.
Are Pollival ® eye drops also suitable for children?
Use in children depends on the cause of the symptoms. For eye problems caused by hay fever (seasonal allergic conjunctivitis/conjunctivitis), Pollival ® eye drops can be administered to children from the age of 4 years. If, on the other hand, it is a non-seasonal, year-round conjunctivitis caused by other allergies, Pollival ® eye drops are suitable for children and adolescents from the age of 12. Please discuss the dosage of the eye drops with the treating pediatrician, ophthalmologist or allergist.
Can Pollival ®Eye drops to be used with contact lenses? v In principle, contact lenses should not be worn in the case of allergic conjunctivitis. If your ophthalmologist allows you to wear contact lenses in exceptional cases, please remove the contact lenses before applying the drops and only put them back in 15 minutes after the drops have been applied.
Doesn't an antihistamine make you tired?
Fatigue as a side effect is more commonly seen with oral antihistamines. However, when an antihistamine is used locally, such as eye drops and nasal sprays containing azelastine, fatigue occurs only in rare cases.
Can I also use Pollival ® eye drops to treat eye infections?
No, Pollival ® eye drops are not suitable for other inflammatory eye diseases. If you are unsure whether your eye problems are actually caused by an allergy, please speak to your ophthalmologist or pharmacist first. In particular, if
• only one eye is affected
• vision is impaired
• no symptoms appear in the nose, this indicates an infection rather than an allergy, which, after consultation with the doctor, should be treated with a preparation suitable for the disease in question.
