Indication / application

  • This preparation is a medicinal product that is used as a support for diseases of the respiratory tract.
  • It is used to improve the condition of colds of the upper respiratory tract (such as uncomplicated runny nose, hoarseness, uncomplicated bronchial catarrh, uncomplicated sinus catarrh).
  • The drug is only intended for external use (inhalation, rubbing in). Not for ingestion!

dosage

  • Always use the medicine exactly as directed. Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
  • Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, the usual dose is:
    • Rub in:
      • Apply 5-15 drops to the chest and back 2 to 4 times a day. For small children older than 2 years, 5 - 10 drops 1 to 2 times a day are sufficient.
    • Inhalation:
      • 15-20 drops are poured over 1/4 l of hot water in the inhaler provided for this purpose.
    • Bedroom / climate room:
      • In the patient's room, mainly in the evening and also during the day, cloth or cotton balls are attached to the head of the bed, if possible, soaked with 15-20 drops, so that constant inhalation is guaranteed.
    • Bath:
      • As a bath additive, 10-20 drops in approx. 20 liters of water are sufficient.

  • Duration of application:
    • The drug should be used for the duration of the illness.
    • If there is a fever, shortness of breath, purulent or bloody sputum, a doctor should be consulted immediately, as treatment with cineole as a balm is not sufficient in these cases. If in the other treatment cases (without fever, without shortness of breath, without purulent or bloody expectoration) the symptoms persist after seven days, a doctor should also be consulted.
  • Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect is too strong or too weak.

  • If you use more than you should:
    • So far, there have been no cases of overdose, especially with cineole. Poisoning with high doses of eucalyptus oil of undefined degree of purity led to central nervous disorders such as clouding of consciousness, fatigue, weakness of the extremities, miosis and in severe cases to coma and respiratory disorders. Due to the rapid excretion of the substance, a rapid resolution of the symptoms and complete recovery can be expected. The other options for treating poisoning with cineole depend on the extent and course as well as the symptoms.

  • If you forget to use:
    • Do not use a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

  • If you have any further questions on the use of the medicinal product, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

way

  • For application on the skin. For inhalation. Not for ingestion!
  • The application takes place regardless of the time of day during the duration of the disease. If possible, carry out the inhalation treatment 2-3 times a day for about 3-5 minutes.

Side effects

  • Like all medicines, this can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
  • The frequency of side effects is based on the following categories:
    • Very common: affects more than 1 in 10 people
    • Common: affects 1 to 10 users in 100
    • Uncommon: affects 1 to 10 users in 1,000
    • Rare: affects 1 to 10 users in 10,000
    • Very rare: less than 1 user in 10,000
    • Not known: frequency cannot be estimated from the available data
  • Hypersensitivity reactions such as throat irritation and irritation of the skin and mucous membranes can occur.
  • As with other inhalation treatments, regardless of the active ingredient, spasms of the bronchial muscles (paradoxical bronchospasm) can occur. In this very rare case, you should stop treatment immediately and contact your doctor immediately.
  • If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. This also applies to side effects that are not specified.

Interactions

  • When used with other drugs:
    • Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking / using or have recently taken / used any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
    • Animal experiments have shown that cineole has an accelerating effect on certain metabolic processes in the liver. Such an effect has not yet been observed in humans when used as intended.

Contraindications

  • The drug must not be used if
    • You or your child are hypersensitive (allergic) to the active substance cineole or any of the other ingredients.
    • You want to treat your baby or toddler under 2 years of age.

pregnancy and breast feeding period

  • Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking / using any medicine.
  • Pregnancy:
    • There are no scientific studies on the use in pregnant women. If you are pregnant you should only use the medicine after consulting your doctor.
    • In animal studies on rats, cineole, the active ingredient of the drug, passes the placenta and reaches the fetus, but the animal experimental data available so far did not provide any evidence of the occurrence of malformations.
  • Breastfeeding:
    • Due to the fat-soluble properties of the active ingredient, it cannot be ruled out that it is carried over into breast milk. However, there are no systematic studies available, particularly with regard to the possible occurrence of adverse drug reactions. Essential oils can change the taste of milk and lead to drinking problems.
    • The medicinal product should not be applied to the breast area during breastfeeding in order to avoid contact of the infant or young child with the product. The medicine should only be used during breastfeeding after consulting your doctor.
