Spermidine was discovered as early as the 17th century as a component of male semen, hence the name. It was only later discovered, however, that it is present in almost every cell. Spermidine is a protein produced by the body that stimulates cell-protecting autophagy ("self-cleaning process" of the cells). In humans, spermidine levels decrease with age. The foods with the highest spermidine content include wheat germ, dried soybeans, cheddar cheese, mushrooms and peas.

The spermidine in Fermentura® SPERMIDIN comes from a standardized wheat germ extract. In addition to its outstanding spermidine content, wheat germ has an extremely high nutrient density of macro and micronutrients (e.g. vitamin E and folic acid). Coenzyme Q10 Q10 (also ubiquinone, from the Latin "ubique" = "everywhere") is a vitamin-like substance - a so-called vitaminoid. It acts as a coenzyme, meaning it binds itself briefly to enzymes so that they can start their work as biocatalysts. Q10 plays a crucial role in energy production in the mitochondria, the "power plants of the cell", and is found in increased amounts in the heart, liver and lungs. As we get older, the body's own Q10 production decreases. Furthermore, cholesterol-lowering drugs such as statins can inhibit the formation of Q10. Fermented wheatgrass powder Wheatgrass is the name given to wheat in the early stages of the first leaf shoots, i.e. before the characteristic ears appear. The wheatgrass must be harvested after a few weeks at the latest, as the nutrient content gradually decreases. In addition to the green plant pigment chlorophyll, there are also higher amounts of choline, vitamins A, B, C, E, F and K as well as niacin, magnesium, selenium, iron and zinc. Wheatgrass contains essential amino acids in the ideal ratio for the human body. Wheatgrass is gluten-free and therefore also suitable for people with gluten intolerance.
