The name Tulsi comes from Sanskrit and means: "The incomparable". For the Hindus, it is the holiest of all plants. In Ayurveda, the daily intake of Tulsi is recommended as an elixir of life. Tulsi is described as balancing the body, relieving stress and prolonging life. In Ayurveda, Tulsi has been known as an adaptogen for thousands of years and is one of the great Rasayanas. Tulsi is sacred to Hindus. Tulsi is worshipped in the morning and evening. It is said that the goddess Tulasidevi hatched in this medicinal plant to serve and protect people. The "queen of herbs" grows in India as a holy plant in the garden of every temple and house. Tulsi is therefore one of the most important spiritual plants in India. It is said to open the heart and mind, provides energies of love and devotion, strengthens faith and compassion and provides clarity. Tulsi is also said to have a protective function by cleansing the energy bodies and strengthening the body's own defenses.
In Ayurvedic herbal medicine, Tulsi is said to have the following properties:
- calming, relaxing, immune-boosting, digestive
- antiseptic, carminative, antispasmodic, sleep-inducing, digestive, warming, anthelmintic
- stomachic, diuretic, antipyretic (fever-reducing), anti-inflammatory, heart-strengthening
- blood sugar lowering
In Ayurveda, Tusli is used for bronchitis, colds, coughs, heart problems, vitiligo (white spot disease), asthma, catarrhal fever, otalgia (earache), liver problems, vomiting, lumbago (lumbago), hiccups, eye problems, ringworm, gastrointestinal problems, wasp stings, bee stings and skin diseases. Ayurvedic properties: balancing for Kapha and Vata.
Recommended dosage: 3 x 1-2 capsules with water.
As a cure, Ayurveda recommends taking 2 x 4 capsules per day.
