Method of
administration The solution for injection is administered intravenously over a period of 2 to 4 weeks in the initial phase of treatment.

The intravenous administration should take place over at least 30 minutes as a short infusion after the contents of Unipon® 600 mg have been mixed with 250 ml sodium chloride solution 0.9%. As a further therapy, 300 mg to 600 mg thioctic acid in dosage forms for oral administration are used.

Paraesthesia in diabetic polyneuropathy Composition
1 ampoule of Unilipon® 600 mg with 24 ml concentrate for the preparation of a solution for infusion contains: 687.4 mg thioctic acid, ethylenebis(azane) salt (equivalent to 600 mg alpha-lipoic acid).
Other ingredients: ethylenediamine, water for injections, nitrogen, argon.

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient thioctic acid or any of the excipients.

side effects
Very rare: purpura and thrombopathies, change or disturbance in taste, seizures and double vision, reactions at the injection site. Allergic reactions of the skin with urticaria, itching, eczema and skin rashes as well as systemic ones up to shock can occur. Common: with rapid intravenous injection, head pressure and respiratory distress (resolve spontaneously). Due to improved glucose utilization, the blood sugar level can very rarely drop. Hypoglycaemia-like symptoms with dizziness, sweating, headaches and visual disturbances have been described.

In the case of severe discomfort associated with diabetic polyneuropathy, intravenous administration in a dosage of 24 ml injection solution per day (equivalent to 600 mg thioctic acid/day) is recommended in adults.
