Why fermentation? Fermentation is a biotechnological process in which organic substances (for example, crops for human consumption) are treated in the absence of air by the metabolic activity of microorganisms. The French biochemist Louis Pasteur was one of the co-discoverers of fermentation and coined the phrase "Fermentation, c'est la vie sans l'air" (Fermentation is life without air). Among other things, the process is well-established in food processing to extend shelf life.
It has been shown that the constituents of various plants are metabolized by the gut microbiota during human digestion. This is a documented intermediate step for many traditionally used plants before they are absorbed into the body. However, there are significant interindividual differences in their application, not least due to the varying composition of the gut microbiota from person to person. Fermentation offers the possibility of enriching the plant material with essential components beforehand. Additionally, the cellular structures of the plant material are broken down, and the contained constituents are mobilized. Therefore, fermentation is gaining increasing importance in the production of herbal preparations.
What are rosehips?
The rosehips of Rosa canina, also known as dog rose, are a particularly valuable natural source of nutrients. Their red fruits are known for their high vitamin C content. Traditionally, rosehips are used to strengthen the immune system and improve skin health.
Vitamin C from rosehips is a natural source that supports the immune system, promotes skin health through collagen production, and has an antioxidant effect.
What is acerola?
Acerola, also known as the cherry of the Antilles, contains up to 30 times more vitamin C than oranges. Vitamin C from acerola is one of the richest natural sources of this important fruit.
Regular intake of vitamin C supports nerve function, psychological function, and energy metabolism.
What is zinc?
Zinc is a vital trace element. It is an important component of enzymes and is required by 300 enzymes and 2,000 transcription factors, thus playing a role in many reactions in the body. It also contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress and to the normal function of the immune system.
