VITAMIN C COMPLEX capsules 90 pieces
Vitamin C is one of the water-soluble vitamins and is also known as ascorbic acid. It is an organic acid, its salts are called ascorbates. Vitamin C has many functions in the body. The most well-known are its function as an antioxidant and its importance for the immune system. Since ascorbic acid is easily oxidized, it functions as an antioxidant.
Antioxidants, also called "radical scavengers", are compounds that react with free radicals before they can destroy or change body cells. The fact that free radicals are constantly created in all metabolic processes in the body and by external influences (e.g. smoking, UV radiation, diseases) can lead to the formation of oxidative stress. Vitamin C is one of the most important antioxidants for the body and helps protect cells from oxidative stress. It can also regenerate used antioxidants, making them usable again. Vitamin C therefore contributes to the regeneration of the reduced form of vitamin E. In the immune system, vitamin C plays an important role in the normal functioning of the immune system. The immune system filters and removes many harmful pathogens and foreign substances from the body every day. It does not matter whether they have entered from outside, such as viruses or bacteria, or whether they have arisen in the body itself, e.g. during the metabolic process. Vitamin C makes an important contribution to collagen formation for the normal functioning of the gums, teeth, blood vessels, bones, cartilage and skin. It is needed for a well-functioning nervous system and is important for normal energy metabolism.
Vitamin C plays an important role in normal psychological function and helps reduce tiredness and fatigue. Finally, vitamin C improves the ability to absorb iron from food. If an iron deficiency is diagnosed, vitamin C should be taken at the same time as iron. The main sources of vitamin C are fresh fruit and vegetables. Vitamin C is rarely found in animal products. The largest sources of vitamin C are, for example, sea buckthorn, black currants, peppers, broccoli, cabbage, kiwi, kohlrabi and lemon. But potatoes are also an important source of vitamin C, as they contain less of the vitamin but are eaten in larger quantities.
Vitamin C is a very sensitive vitamin. It is very sensitive to light and oxygen, so storage and processing of vitamin-rich products can sometimes result in large losses. Frozen products often contain more vitamin C than fruit or vegetables that have been stored for longer. The vitamin C content is highest in the peel, so peeling reduces the vitamin content of fruit and vegetables. Cooking food for a long time and keeping it warm also destroys vitamin C.
Vitamin C is essential for life and must be constantly supplied to the body from outside. The body cannot build up large reserves of vitamin C. Therefore, taking too much vitamin C rarely leads to side effects, as unused ascorbic acid is quickly excreted in the urine. Very high doses can at most have a laxative effect. Some conditions can lead to an increased need for vitamin C. For example, the human body needs more vitamin C during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, when taking the contraceptive pill or in stressful situations. Smoking leads to a reduced absorption of vitamin C. Therefore, smokers also have an increased need.
In addition to well-tolerated buffered vitamin C, Vitamin C Complex also contains the following ingredients:
Acerola, also known as maple cherry, is a small red stone fruit and is mainly native to the American region. The fruits of the acerola have a very high vitamin C content. This is why the acerola cherry is also used as a dietary supplement. Whether a nutrient can be easily absorbed by the human organism and is well tolerated depends on its chemical form.
Sea buckthorn has a long tradition in Europe and Asia as a food, a natural source of vitamin C and, due to its orange color, for coloring natural cosmetics and foods.
Bioflavonoids such as hesperidin are secondary plant substances that are found in large quantities in fruit and vegetables such as peppers, grapes or apples. They serve the plants as colorants, among other things, but also as protection against external harmful influences.
