What are K2 K-Pearls?
K-Pearls capsules are small, soft gelatin capsules containing 75 µg of pure vitamin K2 (menaquinone MK-7) in each capsule. The vitamin K2 is dissolved in cold-pressed olive oil for better absorption. The capsule size makes the K-Pearls easy to swallow, but they can also be chewed.
All-trans MK-7:
In nature, vitamin K is found in both trans and cis forms, which is related to the molecular structure. Only the trans form of MK-7 is biologically active, whereas the cis form has no biological activity. Vitamin K2 K-Pearls contain an all-trans form, which makes them even more biologically active.
What is Vitamin K2?
Vitamin K belongs to the group of fat-soluble vitamins along with vitamins A, D, and E.
Vitamin K was discovered in 1929 by the Danish nutrition researcher Henrik Dam, a discovery that later earned him the Nobel Prize. The vitamin was named vitamin K, with the K standing for "coagulation," i.e., blood clotting, which is the most important function of our blood.
Later it became clear that there are two main types of vitamin K: phylloquinone (K1) and menaquinone (K2). In addition, there is a synthetic type of vitamin K called menadione (K3), which is not used in dietary supplements.
Vitamin K2 exists in various forms, from MK-4 to MK-14. Forms MK-10 and above are very rare. The numbers indicate the length of the side of the vitamin K molecule, a so-called isoprene. Normally, only MK-4 and MK-7 are used as dietary supplements.

Why Vitamin K2 MK-7?
Because Vitamin K2 can remain in the body longer than Vitamin K1, Vitamin K2 is more effective when used in dietary supplements.
Vitamin K is rapidly metabolized in the body but also rapidly excreted, and we only have a small reserve of vitamin K in the liver, spleen, and lungs. Infants do not produce vitamin K, but they receive it preventively from their mothers.
Vitamin K and Bones:
Where vitamin K2 cannot be effective, calcium is of significant benefit for our bone structure. Our bones are constantly being built up and broken down. Whether they are broken down more than built up depends on our age, activity level, and diet.
Vitamin K2 is primarily responsible for transporting calcium to the skeletal system. Bone-forming cells, called osteoblasts, produce a protein called osteocalcin, which activates vitamin K and thus helps calcium from the blood and blood vessel walls to bind to bone tissue, supporting normal bone function.
Vitamin K and Blood Clotting:
Vitamin K also plays an important role in the complex blood clotting process. Vitamin K is necessary for the formation of prothrombin and other blood clotting factors, known as factors VII, IX, and X.
