Chelating agents (used to remove heavy metals from the body), such as D-penicillamine, dimercaptopropanesulfonic acid (DMPS), dimercaptopropanesuccinic acid (DMSA) and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), may reduce the body's absorption of zinc or increase it.
Concomitant intake of phosphate, iron, copper and calcium salts may reduce the absorption of zinc and affect the bioavailability of copper.
High doses of zinc can reduce the absorption and retention of iron.
Zinc reduces the absorption of tetracyclines, ofloxacin and other quinolones (antibiotics, eg norfloxacin, ciprofloxacin). Therefore, it takes time - at least 3 hours to elapse between the intake of zinc and the indicated medicinal products.
